Well as nearly fanatical Valkyrie Profile fan, I will buy this, it's nice that actually good games also still get blatantly ripped-off sometimes.

I recently (literally 28 minutes ago) finished Yahtzee's book "Jam", and it really makes me appreciate, even more, his abilities as a writer and his comments on writing.
So I take his word a bit when he says this game's writing is not very good.
PS You should really pic up a copy of "Jam", it's about an apocalypse...with jam in it.

It makes a big difference to see how the game plays over just hearing about how it plays. Also, I kept having this weird feeling of a voice yelling "Xenogears" at me while I was watching this.

My headcanon of that spider is that it's a female who bit the head off its mate & absorbed him like an angler fish.
Manote Thiha looks like a fusion of Yellow Diamond, White Diamond, & Lion.
Ravannavar looks like Jafar. Javar. Ravanjafar. Ravajnafar.

Ajna: "You are my dad."
Indr: "I am your dad & you are hotblooded."
Ajna: "I am your daughter, my name is Ajna, I am a teenager & I am hotblooded."
Indr: "I am your trainer & your dad."
I thought the casual realization that she has to bury her dad without even looking for survivors or freaking out at all about his killer being in her head would set the tone for the rest of the game but it actually quickly got a lot worse. She's literally talking to a stranger about her dad's death with a smile on her face less than 5 minutes later. Even Elfen Lied is written better than this.
It seems like this game's only goal is to remind you how much better nearly every bit of media ever made is. For example, Steven Universe: Save the light is similar & also tons better in every regard. And a lot of Indivisible's party members are better characters from better games you could be playing.
Also, this game may have good sprites individually but the animation is atrocious. So many frames should've been drawn but just weren't. The good looking sprites just make it more noticeable.
But Ajna sure did a good job of shooting a giant head that was directly beneath her & not moving. I sure am glad that guy who is neither Pearl nor Opal gave her his bow instead of leaving Also Not Pearl's head. Otherwise, we wouldn't know she's so good at using his weapon.

Good thing Yahtzee is not aware that Poland exists 👍

I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed. When I heard that your combatants are all in your head, I assumed the story would navigate some deep psychological stuff. Nope it's all just quirky fun, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Aina/ Ajna/ Ayna are all pronounced the same way and are common names in Scandinavia. (Not as common as Anja, but still)

This is distressing to watch if you empathise with the disembodied voice accompanying Yahtzee. Ben 'Yahtzee' Croshaw has an undeniable aura about him that exudes both _the funny_ and what I hesitantly refer to as 'malice'. You know he won't show you that he finds anything you say funny but on the off chance he does, you keep trying. I have only ever witnessed him laugh at poor game design and laugh along with his own jokes. Every quip and comment the other guy made was met with an unrelated noting of some flawed game design element or a joke of his own. He is embodying the figure of "the disapproving idol". It's so difficult to watch other people try to impress this monolith of humour and spite because, on nearly every occasion, they're just simply ignored. It's like The Relatable Outcast's High School Experience™ all over again. This really is an example of why you should never try to know your heroes personally. Anyway, I probably should've watched more than a few minutes of this before making this comment but honestly, it's just a tad too heartwrenching.

Remove the yesman before his pitiful existence hurts my feelings.

Hey can you do Disco Elysium next? Single player RPG that promises to be "the most freedom ever provided in a desktop RPG". Gotta know if its good before I drop $40 on it but it looks strange at the very least...

Indeed. I rather look forward to Fo:NV in space. Shame that it has to be held hostage by Tencent for such a long time. Oh well, I look forward to playing it once the developers have fixed the various bugs.

I know that you didn't like this game very much, but because you took the time to explain *why* you didn't like it and because you wear your biases on your sleeve, it actually looks like it'd be right up my alley. So, I appreciate the recommendation. Thanks, Yahtzee.

Yeah....Kojima with no oversight has me really worried for just how much of a mess Death Stranding is going to be. Because, literally all the marketing I've seen of it has endeavored to tell us fuck-all about what that game is going to be all about and...well...I'll be honest, at this point, everything that I've seen points to a disturbingly high possibility that Kojima an auteur genius with no oversight is going to lead to the same thing that happened when Lucas was treated as an auteur genius with no oversight.
Essentially, what I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't be particularly surprised if Death Stranding came out and turned out to be the videogame equivalent of the Star Wars prequels.

That is literally the case. You can tell as much in an interview with one of the Bethesda top dogs just before Fo76 was coming out, where they were basically lamenting that there is so many people still playing Fo3 and Skyrim that they just can't touch.
Where as by having an always online, always multiplayer game, they can monetize people's tits off. Because, for every person that gets into the game, they are exposed to the cash shop and the game design is constantly trying to force people into the cash shop to make tons of small purchases. Not to mention, when it's time to release Fallout 77 (or, whatever they are going to call it), they can literally just pull the plug on the Fo76 servers to make all of your purchases gone and have to be done all over again in Fallout 77.

Speaking of fantasy names, this reminds me of something I heard on a podcast I frequent. It's hilarious just how nonsense fantasy names were in videogames before voice acting was "required" for all of them. Take Baldur's Gate, for instance. Remember the city of Amn? Try to pronounce that right quick. Now, try to use it in a sentence that you say out loud without it sounding stupid. Do actually do it.

"I think, therefore I Amn"? "Amn and pickle sandwich"? Yet, despite that, it was a part of the subtitle for a later Baldur's Gate game. It's funny just how much more pronounceable fantasy names got in games after voice acting became the norm.

Except those aren't fantasy for the most part. Ajna, Dhar, Indr(a) are actual Indian words for example. I don't mean to offend but it looks to me that Latin alphabet is not great to help people pronounce stuff. English-speaking RUvideosrs (English majors even) seem unable to pronounce made-up names and words easily even when those are really simple. I guess that's a side effect of English not having any kind of universal pronounciation. I still hate Blizzard with passion for pronouncing Zarya wrong 100% of the time 👌

As for it playing like valkyrie profile. The developers liked VPs gameplay and so used it

@mkl You could power level and button mash truough normal fights and normal difficulty mode, but harder fights on appropriate levels always required a fitting mapping out of team members and their weapons and skills as well as timing of the attacks.

@mkl I don't think so though there was a few fights in VP with a bit more depth specifically seraphic gate

Is this just valkyrie profile but with more depth? from what I remember of the PS1game it was just mash buttons and watch the cool effects. The PS2 game had a little bit more depth maybe?

They didn't get to any of the points where it becomes apparent, but I can say with great certainty Ajna has flaws, almost all of the conflict in the game past where Yahtzee ended the stream are completely her fault.

Her getting saved by Kuchi's bird after they just happened to hear her falling screams was pretty damn convenient, though.

@Pheoniz dang, that sounds cool! Thank you for providing a refreshing contract, honestly! I should get this game when it's out.
Pheoniz
Pheoniz - Month ago
@Lyubimov89 In a sense, yeah, it shows that her impatience and 'good enough' attitude causes more issues than it fix since she often doesn't bother to get to the root of problems or get the full picture. When Dhar swears his loyalty to Ajna's cause, the man who was just less than a week ago blindly loyal to the first antagonist, shows that he learned his lesson by constantly questioning the actions of those he serves under afterwards. He even goes as far as proves that he would have been a better hero than Ajna if the roles were reversed since he is very often the voice of reason, questioning Ajna's actions, and will sometimes even turn on her when it's becoming clear she's completely lost in her delusion of thinking she's irrefutably right.
