Nothing but blah blah blah blah blah from people reading about the car... WHERE ARE THE RUNNING AND DRIVING VIDEOS!?!?!???
deoeers - 23 hours ago
No no no no. This is bad. Corvette = front engine. There are plenty of mid-engine sports cars. I loved the fact that Corvette had always held fast to the front engine layout. I think the last generation front-engine Corvettes are going to increase in value from this point forward.

1:55 Jay, there is the Porsche Cayman and Boxster that are both mid-engine and cost less than $100,000. The Cayman GT4 has 414 hp, and 0-60 around 4 seconds

Jay is using marketing magic by placing himself wearing much nicer than normal attire next to the Corvette to project a rise of value in the car.

"Brembo brakes, all the way around"...? For a while GM's design boffins were considering only putting the Brembo items on the left side, with a Girlock unit on the right-rear, and no brake at all on the right-front corner. Tedious, uncreative bean-counters demanded this arrangement be reconsidered - not solely to reassure Leno - before the final designed was locked in.

$60,000 Jay...WRONG!!! Mister Engineer....says the starting point is under $60K? Did you boys and girls hear that? That is the key.....you can get a basic bare bones LT1 at the Starting point...which does not include dealer costs, or taxes and has nothing but old school technology with the cool new mid engine. Do you want that? Who does? I don't! This car you are looking at has the Z51 package because the spoiler gives it away as does the ground works. Add $5000 to that number and you are starting at just under $65K. The car is highly optional and based on all the Youtube vides if you go for the 2Lt package with the Z51 package you will be pushing $80K by the time you figure in dealer cost and taxes.....It is sad that top guys with all the money like Jay cannot get their facts or scripts right as he did with the tonight show and are misinforming us here. Oh well....he don't care...he made his money and can buy what ever he wants....the rest of us will work like slaves and try to get there...but thanks Jay....i know as the rest of us you did not do this intentionally.

Passing through for Jay:
Viscous Coupling
There are of course differences in the power struggles of the sexes, the transfer of power though, the differential approach called viscous coupling, has a wider automotive ring to it too. I think all of human life though as we know it through the ages, has begun by this simple phrase. It's been coming into my mind lately and here it is explained :
Led Zeppelin perhaps a little rougher around the edges in their approach in 1976 on the Album Physical Graffiti, hinted at the same general automotive analog to human sexuality in "Trampled Under Foot"

Jay Leno, I love you dearly and enjoy your wry and biting sense of humor done with utmost gentility. Yes there are very, very many stupid as well as uneducated among us. Anyway that is not why I am responding.

I think that the chief should have spoken more about "his" baby rather than you giving him leading questions. GM has taken a calculated risk in order to create, (if their metrics are correct), excitement for people to check out a Chevy dealer. I hope they are right. If they the new Corvette can match or exceed a Honda NSX ... at a considerably lower price point... that is all the better.

I love cars, I am a mechanical engineer, you LOVE cars. But at the end of the day, they were designed to replace the horse. Sort of like microwave/ toaster ovens were deigned to make our life less burdensome.

That's badass. I know it's not traditional front-engine, but Chevy wants to compete with more exotic cars, this is how to do it. I know these are going to sell for over 100K+ just from shear demand. 60K MSRP is amazing though for the car that it is... if you could only buy it for that much.

Would have never been interested in an American car… Fit & finish, interieur quality, materials, innovation, looks, all too very important for me. Rather pay 60k for a used BMW than a new what-is-it-called-uglo. Don't care how fast sth is on the straight, how much it can pull, how cheap it is. But man, did GM a good job on this thing, very exciting. Hope to see more from them, maybe a little more directing finish and quality in the future.
Allenwrench - 6 days ago
It'll be quick, but with the same pushrod V8, the fact that 6,600 rpm will have to do, and no manual, then it's an old man's sports car.
PatriotJon - 6 days ago
Please....  STOP CALLING IT A CORVETTE...!!   Its a Euro/Asian Knock off "Cuck-Car".  Wouldn't  be caught dead in one.  Its not just Ugly....  Its FUGLY...!!   The Design Team at Chevy is Slowly Destroying the Brand. I Put this POS right up there with the "New" "Cuck-Blazer" design.   Just Stopped Buying Chevy. At least anything new.  YUK.
PatriotJon - 2 days ago
I cant argue that fact to much, But.... I have had vettes in the past, They were ok looking. right now, I have a 2008 Vette. And the Lines on that car are just Really Beautiful. I think it was the best looking vette since the Split Window. But this thing they are producing now.... Hey Chevy..... Toyota called, THEY WANT THIER FRONT END DESIGN BACK.

Seems that I'm the only one here that senses the death of the 'REAL Corvette'.
Not that it's a bad car......but you should have named it something else.
blondwiththewind - 5 days ago
@Marco D'Magnifico ... Nice history...but it doesn't seem to have much relationship to my comment.
Marco D'Magnifico
Marco D'Magnifico - 5 days ago
@blondwiththewind : Aero-vette? In the 1970's GM toyed with the idea of a mid-engined three rotor wankel powered Aero-Vette idea. I was in high school and remember doing mechnical design drawings of one I saw in Motor Trend. GM stuck with the "Stingray" look and pushrod engines, I graduated from high school and moved on. My first car was FIAT X1/9, mid-engined OHC design, I stopped looking at GM as anything but old people cars (they were still pushing Landua tops and fake spoked white walls). Sadly it was the enormously successful sales of the Mako Shark design from the mid-60's that came to embody the Corvette which morphed in the long front end and short rear swoopy fenders look that became the 1960's Gen3, Gen 4 (late 60's, 70's and early 80's), design that lasted so long, practically every including GM never looked beyond so they continued to build the Corvette Gen 5 (1984) as a fossil at birth desinged more the senior citizen crowd than as cutting edge. Seriously, push rods in the 21st century? (not even in my lawn mower).
blondwiththewind - 5 days ago
@Marco D'Magnifico .... Maybe so....but I'm fond of the legendary Corvette.... and I'm grieving. To my mind: this car is not a Corvette.....it should have been named something new. I don't like how it looks, either. Looks like a matchbox car to me.
Marco D'Magnifico
Marco D'Magnifico - 5 days ago
If by "real Corvette" you mean the "Stingray"; it was long over due. Ford GT40 was years ahead of the curve (decades ahead the 'vette) along with Lambo, Ferrari, and well almost everyone else with mid-engined race and performance road car.

Correct for now. You really can't order the base yet. 70k is about the lowest you can go if you want one in january.

Come on, Jay... $60K is a pipe dream. Chevrolet dealers will be gouging buyers for a couple of years on this car. For instance, $999 for paint "protection". $699 for screw head polishing. $1099 for leather protection application, $599 for lug bolt tightening...... You get the picture. And yes, people will pay.
