Speaking during a cabinet meeting at the White House on Oct. 21, Trump seemed to question the United States' responsibility to the Kurds, specifying "we helped them, don't forget, we helped the Kurds. Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, said Friday that he supports the House moving forward with the impeachment of President Donald Trump. In an interview with PBS NewsHour anchor and managing editor Judy Woodruff, Kasich indicated that comments this week from White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney changed his mind. Mulvaney said at a White House briefing on Thursday that aid to Ukraine was withheld until its government investigated an unsubstantiated theory from the 2016 election. Mulvaney later walked back his statement. "It's one for thing for a president to pull aid from a country based on public policy," Kasich told Woodruff. "But it's another thing to dangle aid, vital military aid, over the head of a nation that's fighting, literally, for their survival based on politics." President Donald Trump said his tactic of “tough love” was the reason Turkey agreed to a 120-hour cease-fire in Syria. Trump told reporters before an event in Keene, Texas, that he would lift sanctions as soon as the deal is implemented. “We’ve gotten everything we could have ever dreamed of,” Trump said. The announcement of the agreement was made during Vice President Mike Pence's visit to Turkey and is contingent on the Kurds moving from northern Syria where they had been fighting ISIS with U.S. troops. Turkey has long wanted the Syrian Kurds out of northern Syria. Kurdish forces were not party to the agreement forged Oct. 17, so it is unclear whether they would even comply with the terms. President Donald Trump told reporters on Oct. 16 that the Kurds in Syria are "no angels" and that they are "well protected" by Syria. Answering questions during a bilateral meeting with Italy's president, Trump defended his highly criticized decision to withdraw U.S. troops from northern Syria, allowing Turkey to launch an invasion against the Kurds. Kurdish fighters were a key partner of U.S. troops in the battle against ISIS in northeast Syria. WATCH: Schiff, Pelosi say House will not yet call for formal Trump impeachment vote

House Intelligence chair Rep. Adam Schiff, one of the Democrats leading the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, told reporters Oct. 15 that witness testimony this week regarding a call between Trump and the president of Ukraine has revealed more about that conversation and the preparation that led to it. He added that the White House continues to "stonewall" congressional attempts to hear from other members of the administration. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, among others, have said they will not comply with House subpoenas to testify about the call. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the House would not yet hold a vote to authorize the impeachment inquiry, an action Democrats have wrestled with for weeks. When asked why she wouldn't hold a vote to force the White House into complying, Pelosi said, "We're not here to call bluffs, we're here to find the truth ... this is not a game for us, this is deadly serious." Turkish offensive on Kurds brings 'chaos' in northern Syria
Turkish offensive on Kurds brings 'chaos' in northern Syria
9 days ago
President Trump on Sunday ordered the withdrawal of nearly all 1,000 U.S. troops from northern Syria as Turkey continued a military offensive against Syrian Kurds that has left the region in chaos. For more on the escalating military offensive in Syria, Sarah El Deeb, a reporter for the Associated Press, joins Megan Thompson from Beirut. Judy W., you did a great job tonight. Made Bernie admit all his flaws. It wasn't hard to do.

Health care: Bernies plan is not practical. How about we implement a government healthcare and don’t cover anything which is due to lifestyle choices such as smoking and obesity? Those two issues are the major causes for inflated healthcare costs.

PBS News Hour did not give 2 wet s***s about Syria until Trump removes troops. Now dedicating one third of the broadcast to Syria only to denounce Trump. There are equal or worse news elsewhere, but nothing on that. Almost the entire News Hour is arranged at hating Trump. Boo PBS News Hour.

John Richardson
John Richardson - Hour ago
Alcindor gave us her usual smile / smirk, so proud of herself. 7:15 Yamiche, what you actually have done is say that no business person can ever run for office, because if any non-American buys their products while in office, it will be foreign influence. Is that what we want ??? Really ??? Only lawyers and nobody with real business experience as our political leaders ??? Kind of sounds like PBS's business model.
John Richardson
John Richardson - Hour ago
Thank you Alcindor for doing one thing right. 6:30 You gave us the code section Biden violated accepting gifts via his family from foreign powers.
John Richardson
John Richardson - Hour ago
Consistent fact fabricator - Yamiche Alcindor - is unwilling to admit the obvious fact that Trump is losing money by being president - although we don't know the exact amount - a child could do the math. Alcindor has no credibility. PBS News Hour loses credibility by consistently inviting Alcindor back knowing she repeatedly misrepresents facts.

If anything is withheld OR given to Ukraine, Trump haters will say "quid pro quo". Even Judy W. admits there are only 7 house dems willing to vote for impeachment and that is why they are having secret hearings not open to the public.

This opiate Witch Hunt Dragnet has its merits but on other aspects it is nothing more than a Witch Hunt. Some of us use opiates responsibly are doctors prescribe it responsibly, some of us need this pain mitigating medicine to maintain a quality of life. Hey I get it that there are some people that just want to get stoned or high and Doctor shop and go to Great extremes to get opiates further fixation. But there are those of us who treat this drug with great respect use it sparingly to manage episodic pain. Some of us can take a month's worth of a prescription and make that last for months, yet or treated as if we are consuming it by the handful daily which is a fallacy of those that want to be opiate Nazis in this country. There's a point in time to where the opiate Nazis, have crossed the boundaries of legitimately denying individuals such as myself the access to opiates to saying that you cannot have any opiates whatsoever and then not provide us with any other medications to mitigate or manage or pain. It actually constitutes malpractice.

Stephanie it's nice to see a fresh face on PBS and I know you're a competent well qualified investigator, but I must say looking at your Wikipedia file under the personal life section it says that you're currently married to David Jensen I would suggest that you expunge the word currently because that denotes that it's a temporary situation. Just FYI thanks I'm looking forward to seeing your face on a regular basis on PBS NewsHour.

I feel ashamed I took any pills when I broke my wrist. Of the 40 pills I was prescribed I took about 5 in the first few days as I had work to tend to. But i’m an advocate for natural healing on the basis that the body releases its own pain killers. It’s important for your body to accustom itself to pain for common injuries because the memory cells get fortified.

Emotions have no place in politics. But if I had to go with how trump feels about it compared to Sanders, I side with Trump. Yet, let’s think about the objective fact behind trumps reasoning. It’s a territorial war for territory that the USA doesn’t want. At least not for now. What would happen if the USA wanted it later? Would the USA want to take it from the weak or the strong?

ISIS is terrorism bc they did horrific acts, over and over! Beheadings in front of children? Even if you aren’t moved by our betrayal of the Kurds, I ask, are you ok with our risk? IF they had more money and infrastructure-OR if we liberated ISIS (doh! We did!) this fight would be everywhere including in the US. I am pro-peace, anti-war, and love several members of our armed services. I am also heartbroken and worried for all of us.
