But the same can’t be said for the 12 million people living outside the city limits. So what are authorities doing to improve access to transportation around Paris, and to decongest the increasingly packed metros in the capital? We find out in this week’s French Connections. Subscribe to France 24 now: f24.my/youtubeEN FRANCE 24 live news stream: all the latest news 24/7 f24.my/YTliveEN The Elysée Palace calls him a man of action...who knows industrial issues and Brussels institutions like the back of his hand.Thierry Breton certainly has an impressive CV...In 2002 he was made head of an ailing France Telecom - privatising the company and bringing it back from the brink. That helped him leapfrog to the post of Finance Minister from 2005 to 2007 - under the then President Jacques Chirac. He was credited with bringing down unemployment to its lowest levels since the 1980s.Breton then held a number of high profile private sector jobs...most recently as head of the IT giant ATOS.DLS There he doubled revenue to 11 billion euros and massively increased the workforce to 110 thousand employees. He is however France's 2nd choice to join the European Union's executive arm.2 weeks ago, EU lawmakers rejected the first pick - the former defense minister Sylvie Goulard - over her personal finances. Paris blamed German conservatives for that rejection.France is hoping the fact that Breton is a pro-Europe conservative will help push his nomination forward. Despite calls for greater details about his ATOS earnings, by a vote of 12 to 11, he got the support of the EU parliament's legal affairs committee earlier this week. Despite attacks by settlers, Palestinians and Israelis join forces for olive harvest

Some extremist Israeli settlers set olive groves ablaze and resort to physical attacks instead of letting Palestinian farmers harvest their fields. But every year for the past two decades, other groups of Israeli citizens have been helping Palestinians out with the olive harvest. Among them are rabbis who still believe in the olive as a symbol of peace. Our correspondents report. Subscribe to France 24 now: f24.my/youtubeEN FRANCE 24 live news stream: all the latest news 24/7 f24.my/YTliveEN UPSOT SWEARING IN For now at least, this is the woman taking the helm of Bolivia - a country she says is emerging from one of its darkest episodes. In front of a half empty chamber, the deputy senate leader Jeanine Anez used a constitutional clause to take control of the assembly...meaning she was then able to elevate herself to the position of interim President. The benches where Evo Morales' leftist supporters normally sit lay bare as many boycotted the session - meaning a quorum for the appointment wasn't reached. But with the endorsement of the Constitutional Court, Anez donned the presidential sash to address crowds SOT JEANINE ANEZ"Thank you to all the Bolivian people. I'm going to work for you all - because Bolivians deserve to live in peace and never have their vote stolen again"She's vowed to organise fresh elections as soon as possible...with a view to ending the civil unrest which has rocked Bolivia since Morales controversially won last month's presidential vote.UPSOT POLICE GUNFIREBut her new appointment appears to have done little to calm those tensions, with police clashing with pro-Morales supporters on the streets of La Paz. As for the man who abruptly stood down on Sunday, he's angrily tweeted from his new home in Mexico where he's been granted political aslyum DLS MORALES "The sneakiest and most nefarious coup in history has been completed. A coup-mongering, right-wing senator has proclaimed herself president of the senate and then interim president of Bolivia without a legislative quorum"UPSOT CHANTSHe's vowed to keep up his political fight and return home quickly, where hundreds of his followers continue to defend his presidency. For all of those who make the argument that it is unethical for psychiatrists to render opinions/diagnostics without examining patients....keep in mind our board exams consist of diagnosing a patient who is on video. The psychiatric board doesnt really seem to care so neither should you. Furthermore, radiologists base their diagnosis on a picture on a screen without ever asking a question or touching a patient. What's the difference? Signed, a psychiatrist who cant believe people who voted for trump havent learned their lesson yet.

This is an eye-opening interview. Finally, we know the main reason of these riots. Well, they are actually not rioting. As this elderly woman revealed at 2:50, what happened was police had been going into residential areas to shoot tear gas on elderly people and children, and the students were just fighting back police to protect these people. Ah......so, this is what has been happening in HK. Shouldn't we all support the students for being so brave? And why would the police go to residential areas to go after elderly people and kids? Well....perhaps that got mad cow disease. Perhaps, that's why.

We can either be smart about what's coming and face the realities and find value in the changes ahead or we can cling to ideologies which are losing relevance and make change to difficult and go under. I don't see concepts like "capitalism" and "socialism" being relevant in the near future. Information and arts and an increasingly shared economy are all being democratised by the internet. Energy is becoming democratised by co-ops and individuals participating in energy capture and feed into the grid. Transport, the way we all work and our political power structures will be next. This will ultimately bring the best of socialism and capitalism together and increase democracy. We're changing and it's time for the people we elect to manage things to see this, stand up and take the lead. We need governments to get on board and facilitate this new direction. We really don't have any other choice.

I remember being in Pattern New Jersey, where the Hasidic Jews have a community. Their way of living was intense but very real. The men looked focused and always on a mission. Often families walking throughout the streets with the wife a few paces behind and male children were observed walking in the front side by side with their father. I thought I had entered some kind of time warp. I was not sure what to make of it all. I'm not going to judge or call names, but this religion and way of life is VERY extreme! On a positive note, the Matzah Ball soup was out of this world...delicious:) Peace

Flavored news from France now? There is no real extremism in Hinduism, no criminal racism, no terrorizing, colonizing. India's overall character is Spiritual. Religious branding and evil of the past will not work here with or without modernization. However, reactionism has grown recently to counter radicalism sponsored from outside. India has the world's oldest Church dated 50 AD, built 400 years before Christianity found ground in Europe, oldest Synagogue outside mid-east, oldest Mosque in the World in the same state. People lived in harmony till the Islamic hordes and then the colonial-missionaries arrived. I read about a case where a nun was subjected to indignities by illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and once by drunken tribals who they were perhaps trying to convert by giving them liquor. On praying in secret, there are Crypto-Christians who write native names but are converted to prevent a census detection, many just care about money and privileges and do not give a hoot to religion anyways. And why all this when India have Christians from all denominations in high places be it Army or Defence establishments.

I urge the Pakistani government to stop exporting raw rock salt to India and China. It should be illegal to sell the rock salt raw. Only Pakistani businesses should be allowed to sell this directly to the consumers abroad to maximise profit but also to reduce the price for consumers as the Indians are ripping people off.
