Why Netflix canceled your favorite show
Why Netflix canceled your favorite show
Netflix was never considered a traditional TV service. Canceling shows that aren’t performing well is an understood and necessary part of being a TV network, but Netflix has started canceling shows faster than ever before. Whereas older Netflix originals like House of Cards, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Grace and Frankie, and Orange is the New Black were given five or six seasons, beloved newcomers like The OA and Tuca and Bertie don’t have the same opportunities. The company is still invested in original series, but expect to see more international shows and titles from big showrunners. In this episode of The Future of Music presented by Aloft Hotels, we spoke to Tom Holkenborg, aka Junkie XL, who is a musician/producer turned film composer changing the way films are scored. He’s part of a new class of commercial or popular producers getting into the composing scene, and instead of using a traditional full orchestra, he often records an entire soundtrack in his studio using synths and instruments he’s created. Tesla-powered Porsche 912: vintage meets electric
Tesla-powered Porsche 912: vintage meets electric
Month ago
This 550-horsepower 1968 Porsche 912 is getting all of its power from an unexpected source: the electric motor from a Tesla Model S P85. It was made by two Southern California shops, Zelectric Motors and EV West, which convert old Volkswagens and Porsches into modernized electric cars. It’s a new way to rescue aging vintage cars - though not everyone is happy with the idea. Insta360’s One X is a 360-degree action camera that uses dual 200-degree f/2 lenses to create really unique 18-megapixel photos or 5.7K spherical video that can then be exported in 1080, non-360, frames. As a tech optimist, I was ready to be a believer in 360 again, but sometimes more cameras just mean more work, and as a consumer you really have to know exactly what you want to do with this camera before you buy it. Earlier this year, The Verge’s Casey Newton broke the story about the working conditions of Facebook moderators in Phoenix, AZ. Newton published a followup today revealing that the pattern of severe workplace conditions extends to a second campus in Tampa, FL, but in even more extreme ways. DJI’s Osmo Action is the company’s first action camera. It’s a direct competitor to GoPro’s Hero 7 Black, matching it on almost every spec while also offering a few unique features - like a front-facing selfie screen. It costs $349 and is available now. So GoPro’s reign as champ...might be coming to an end. OnePlus 7 Pro review: amazing screen, solid camera
OnePlus 7 Pro review: amazing screen, solid camera
4 months ago
The OnePlus 7 Pro is a really large Android phone with one of the best displays. The selfie camera pops up from the top, the fingerprint sensor is way faster, and the camera is solid. Oxygen OS is really well thought out. Battery life and performance are all very impressive. That’s a lot of checked boxes, which means the OnePlus 7 Pro proves that great phones don’t need to cost a thousand dollars. Correction: At 3:24, the graphic shows the incorrect PPI. This should say 516 PPI instead of 561. Google’s Pixel 3A or Pixel 3A XL is the best phone under $500, and it’s actually competitive with more expensive phones in one very important way. The Pixel 3A has a great camera. While it has many of the same compromises you usually make when you buy a cheap phone, the photos it takes are nearly indistinguishable from what comes out of a Pixel 3. Apple’s AirPods 2 look and sound very familiar to the first-gen version, but the biggest change is the ability to wirelessly charge the case. Google Stadia wants to be the Netflix of gaming

Google's Stadia cloud gaming platform will let you stream console and PC-quality titles across laptops, desktops, TVs, tablets, and phones. At launch, Google says it will support up to 4K at 60 fps, and it will work on any screen so long as you have a Chrome browser or Chromecast Ultra. Google’s building the Netflix of video games and the company has the software and infrastructure to pull it off. But, there are still a lot of open questions. The iPad mini is the best small tablet around. With the fifth-gen iPad mini, you basically get the entire feature set of the new iPad Air, in a smaller package with better tablet app support than anything else on the market. The Apple Pencil works just like the first-gen Pencil on any other iPad. After using the new iPad mini, we’re reminded why people like it so much and if you want a powerful small tablet, the new iPad mini is the best choice, full stop. The Samsung Galaxy S10 vs. the Google Pixel 3 - how do you decide between the two? The S10 is a little bigger, faster, with better battery life and the Pixel 3 has a better camera and is easier to unlock. They are both great options. THIS is why your phone is so damn expensive

Phones are more expensive than ever. Flagship devices from Apple, Samsung, Google, and other top manufacturers can now cost hundreds of dollars more than they did just a couple years ago. With extra storage, many of them reach well above $1,000. And with the arrival of foldable phones, which are being priced around and above $2,000, it looks like the upper limit for phone prices is going to keep growing. Samsung Galaxy S10E review: smaller, cheaper, better
Samsung Galaxy S10E review: smaller, cheaper, better
6 months ago
The Samsung Galaxy S10E is the smaller variant of the S10 and S10 Plus released this month. It’s 5.8” screen spans edge-to-edge with a hole-punch camera that we’ve seen across this year’s Galaxy S10 lineup. Samsung claims the “e” stands for “essentials,” but there's a lot more to this phone than just that. In an era of giant phones getting larger, the S10E shows that smaller doesn’t have to mean worse. How AI will completely change video games
How AI will completely change video games

AI in video games is very different than the AI in self-driving cars, smart home devices, and natural language algorithms. That’s because game developers have been sticking to the basics, but all that is starting to change. Researchers today are incorporating more cutting-edge AI advancements into games. In the future, these tools could result in games designing themselves with characters that can learn and adapt to the player. Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus review: the anti-iPhone

The Galaxy S10 Plus is easily the best Android phone you can buy right now. It took Samsung a few years to hit its stride with high-end hardware, and the past Galaxy S phones have been considerably better, if a bit predictable. This year’s Galaxy S10 family is no different: these are high-end phones with cutting edge technology, strong battery life, sleek designs, and a versatile camera system. Foldable phones at MWC 2019: just the beginning
Foldable phones at MWC 2019: just the beginning
6 months ago
Foldable phones are just getting started. Here’s what we know so far: the Huawei Mate X, the Samsung Galaxy Fold, and the Royole FlexPai. It's already obvious that they're going to be a big part of our shared technological future. The hype from all corners for them has been deafening, whether you're talking to hardware manufacturers, mobile carriers, or tech enthusiasts. As big and important as foldables will be though, they also face a long road of evolution and refinement, one where prices will need to come down and usability will have to go way up. With a four inch flexible display, you can use it to do anything from taking photos to typing out SMS messages, although its display gives it some very interesting quirks. Loved the interview! I would like to see more content like these where they are taken seriously as an artist.

A home console that's a handheld, but not a handheld, because it's a home console that goes with you, and now a handheld that's not a handheld, because it's a home console, just not able to play on a television. Nintendo's so screwy this generation!

Please do a video on the fact that kpop is not only for teens and young adults! I’m a mom over 40 and I LOVE kpop! Monsta x NCT so many! And I’m not alone, there are so many moms and even ‘grandmas’ who love kpop!
